Reverse description A flaming sacrificial altar, richly decorated with garlands and festoons, occupies the centre of the field, its flame rising prominently from the top. The date 1696 is divided to either side of the altar body, with 16 to the left and 96 to the right. The surrounding legend, arranged around the entire periphery in Latin, reads VOT : PUBL : SUSCEPTA · PRO : SAL : & · RED : DEO · O : M : SACR, translating as 'Public vows undertaken for safety and return, consecrated to God Almighty,' commemorating the Saxon campaign against the Ottoman Empire.
