Obverse description Elaborate quartered coat of arms of the Prince-Bishop of Münster, surmounted by a princely crowned helmet with mantling, occupying the central field. The escutcheon displays the heraldic quarters associated with the see of Münster and the von Galen family. The circumferential legend in Latin reads: * CHRIST : BERN : D • G • EPIS • & PRINCEPS • MONAS, identifying Christoph Bernhard von Galen as Bishop and Prince of Münster by the grace of God. The coin's edge is finely toothed, characteristic of the milled gold coinage of the period.
