2 Ducats - Christina of Sweden

Christina ascended the Swedish throne in 1632 at age six, following her father Gustav II Adolf's death at Lützen, and her regency council immediately pursued the ongoing Thirty Years' War with considerable aggression. By 1635, Swedish forces held significant leverage over much of northern Germany, and Mainz — occupied by Swedish troops from 1631 — struck gold issues acknowledging her authority as a matter of political necessity rather than allegiance. The city had been largely abandoned by its own archbishop-elector, Anselm Casimir, who fled rather than accommodate the Protestant occupation.

KM#512 is among the more direct numismatic records of Swedish dominion over a Catholic imperial city at the war's midpoint.
