Reval — present-day Tallinn — had been under Swedish control since 1561, and by 1668 Carl XI was still a minor, with the regency government effectively running the realm. The city retained unusual municipal minting privileges under Swedish rule, producing gold coinage that functioned as much for prestige and mercantile settlement as everyday exchange. This second portrait type reflects a recut obverse die, a distinction that separates it from the earlier emission and matters considerably to completists working the Reval series.
Fed#282 pieces appear in auction with genuine infrequency. The .986 fineness is exceptionally pure for the period.
