| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Pope John XXIII in high relief, depicted in papal vestments with an elaborate pectoral cross and decorative clasp visible at the lower right of the bust. The pontifical coat of arms appears below the truncation. The circular legend IOANNES XXIII PONTIFEX MAXIMUS runs along the upper periphery, while the date 1960 is inscribed in the left field. The portrait is rendered in a refined, medallic style consistent with the work of engraver Werner Graul. |
