| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, the crowned Palatinate lion passant to left, bearing on its body the lozengy shield of the Bavarian arms. The lion is rendered in high relief with pronounced mane and extended claws. The surrounding field carries the ducal legend in Roman capitals separated by pellets. The overall design is characteristic of late Renaissance Bavarian gold coinage. |
