Obverse description Heraldic composition featuring two rampant lions acting as supporters to the crowned arms of the Republic of Bern, each lion holding a staff surmounted by the distinctive domed bear hat (Berner Bärenhaube) centrally above the shield. The shield displays the bear of Bern passant, rendered in fine relief with elaborate Baroque artistry. The circumferential Latin legend reads MONETA AUREA REIPUBLICÆ BERNENSIS, separated by a terminal stop, running along the inner edge of a beaded border.
