Obverse description The arms of Hamburg — a three-towered castle with an open gateway — displayed at centre, surrounded by an elaborate laurel wreath tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The mintmaster's initials I.R. appear in the lower field within the wreath. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery of the coin.

Reverse description Laureate bust of Holy Roman Emperor Joseph I facing right, mounted on a tall pedestal bearing a crowned double-headed imperial eagle. The date 1705 is divided by the pedestal, with '17' to the left and '05' to the right. A Latin imperial titulature legend encircles the design along the periphery.
