Fernando I of Navarre is Fernando II of Aragon — the same Fernando of the Catholic Monarchs. Navarre was seized by Castilian and Aragonese forces in 1512, with Pope Julius II conveniently excommunicating the reigning Albret dynasty to provide political cover for the annexation. Fernando struck coins in his own name for the conquered kingdom almost immediately, asserting legitimate rule through the mint before the military situation had fully resolved.
The double-ducat weight standard here follows Aragonese rather than Navarrese practice — a deliberate assimilation of the local coinage into Iberian monetary norms that would outlast Fernando himself.
