| Obverse description | Mature bare-headed effigy of King George I facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and strong facial features characteristic of the engraver Georgios Jakobides. The circular Greek legend ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α! ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ runs along the upper periphery, translating as 'George I, King of the Greeks.' The engraver's signature Γ. Greece had been striking 2 Drachmai coins continuously since the 1870s, but by 1911 the government was exploring updated portrait types for George I, who had ruled since 1863. This piece is a pattern — a trial striking never approved for circulation — and KM#Pn42 documents it as one of several portrait variants tested that year. The third portrait was ultimately not adopted, leaving this issue confined to a handful of proof or specimen strikes produced for official review.
