Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Ranuccio I Farnese facing left, depicted with curly hair and a lace collar, in the Renaissance portrait manner. The effigy occupies the majority of the coin's field, rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail. A beaded inner border frames the design. The encircling Latin legend reads RANVT·FAR·PLA·P·DVX·IV·S·R·E·CONF·PER·, recording the duke's titles as Prince of Parma and Piacenza and Perpetual Confederation of the Holy Roman Church.
