| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of Giovanni Andrea II Doria in right profile, depicted with flowing wavy hair and draped in a mantle with a prominent collar, rendered in a bold hammered relief characteristic of mid-seventeenth-century Italian coinage. The effigy occupies the central field, conveying a strong, naturalistic portrait style. The circumferential Latin legend is separated from the bust by a beaded inner border. The date 1639 appears at the base of the bust within the legend. Rosette stops punctuate the inscription at intervals around the coin's periphery. |
