Singapore's lunar series issues are produced by the Singapore Mint under license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, with each zodiac release timed to the corresponding Lunar New Year. The 2016 Rat issue marks the completion of a full 12-year zodiac cycle from the series' earlier iterations, giving long-running set collectors a natural closing point.
Mintage for these MAS lunar pieces is tightly controlled, and secondary market premiums over spot have historically held firm on Singapore issues — partly due to consistent regional demand across Chinese diaspora collectors in Southeast Asia.
