Obverse description Left-facing laureate and draped bust of Queen Victoria occupies the central field, rendered in the young head portrait style characteristic of early Victorian colonial coinage. The hair is elaborately dressed with a laurel sprig, drawn back and gathered at the nape. A fine beaded inner border encircles the effigy, with a distinctive decorative chain-link or loop ornament visible at the left and right margins. The peripheral legend reads VICTORIA D: G: REG: NEWFOUNDLAND, divided around the bust, with the issuer name NEWFOUNDLAND appearing along the lower arc.
