Reverse description Printed entirely in green intaglio, the reverse is dominated by a central oval vignette of Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate, set amid trees and framed by fine lathe-work guilloche. Large numeral 2 and the word TWO appear in the four corners over an elaborate scrollwork underprint, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST inscribed on a scroll above the vignette beneath the arched legend THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The caption MONTICELLO appears below the central oval, and TWO DOLLARS is repeated in the upper and lower border panels.
