| 备注 |
The Mechanics Bank of Augusta received its charter from the Georgia legislature in 1833 and operated as one of the more conservative antebellum state banks in the Deep South — it survived several of the periodic suspension crises that crippled Georgia banking in the 1840s. By 1858, when this note was issued, the bank held a reputation solid enough that its paper circulated at or near par across much of the state.
Danforth, Spencer & Hufty and its successor firm Spencer, Hufty & Danforth were the same core partnership in transition, splitting operations between New York and Philadelphia during a reorganization period — notes from this exact series can appear with either imprint depending on which shop completed the run.
