Obverse description The obverse is engraved in a style typical of mid-19th century American bank note production. A large central vignette presents a steam locomotive with freight cars passing through a mountain landscape, flanked on the left by a circular state seal vignette and a standing allegorical female figure in an arched panel, and on the right by a guilloche medallion bearing the numeral "2" and a circular vignette of a seated female figure. The bold letterpress legend "STATE OF FLORIDA" and "TWO DOLLARS" appears in the centre field, with a red "TWO" overprint serving as a primitive anti-counterfeiting device, and a small cartouche inscribed "THE PUBLIC LANDS OF THE STATE PLEDGED" appears at lower centre. Manuscript signatures of the Treasurer and Governor are affixed below the text.
