Reverse description Central device features the civic coat of arms of the City of Oshawa, comprising a quartered shield bearing industrial gear wheels in the upper section, a sailing vessel and automotive wheel in the middle quarters, and three maple leaves in the base; the shield is surmounted by a beaver couchant as crest. A scroll beneath the shield carries the city motto LABOUR AND PROSPER. Below the arms, the inscriptions OSHAWA and THE CITY IN MOTION / CELEBRATING 75 YEARS appear in the field. The dates 1924 and 1999 flank the shield to left and right respectively, and a peripheral legend along the lower border reads ESTABLISHED 1842 • INCORPORATED AS A VILLAGE 1850 • AS A CITY 1924, all within a beaded border with the legend OSHAWA • CANADA arcing at the top.
