Anguilla's 1969 rebellion against the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla federation produced one of the more unusual monetary episodes in Caribbean history. After expelling St. Kitts police and declaring independence, the island's provisional government issued its own coinage to assert administrative legitimacy — these trial pieces were part of that effort, produced before designs were finalized. The rebellion was never formally recognized by Britain, and Anguilla's independent coinage never achieved legal tender status in any conventional sense.
The silver-plated brass composition marks this unambiguously as a pattern or trial strike rather than a circulation issue.
