Obverse description The national coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia occupies the central field, depicted as a heraldic shield bearing a three-masted sailing ship on calm seas with a rising sun and a palm tree on the shore. Above the shield, a scroll bears the national motto; the shield is surmounted by a dove in flight and flanked by decorative supporters. A secondary scroll below the shield bears the legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs around the upper field, while the denomination 2 DOLLARS is inscribed in the lower field. A beaded border runs along the coin's periphery.

Additional information

Liberia's commemorative program in the 2000s and early 2010s was among the most prolific — and most criticized — in modern numismatics. The country licensed its minting authority extensively to foreign producers, primarily in Germany and China, resulting in hundreds of themed issues that had no meaningful circulation within Liberia itself. This piece is a product of that arrangement, struck for the collector market rather than any domestic monetary purpose.

KM#1037 is one of dozens of holiday-themed Liberian issues from this period catalogued by Krause largely as a formality.
