Kong Zi — the Latinized "Confucius" derives from Kongfuzi, "Master Kong" — was born in the state of Lu in 551 BC and died having never witnessed the widespread adoption of the ethical and social philosophy he spent decades teaching. His influence came posthumously, institutionalized under Han Emperor Wu around 136 BC when Confucianism was elevated as state orthodoxy. Fiji's inclusion in a growing market of Chinese-themed collector silver reflects the Pacific island nation's longstanding diplomatic and commercial ties with the People's Republic, formalized in 1975.
