Reverse description Within the brass-toned aluminium bronze centre, a solitary polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is depicted in full profile facing right, standing on a fragmented Arctic ice floe with a suggestion of snow and distant terrain in the background, after the design by Brent Townsend. The engraver's initials 'BT' appear in the lower right field of the centre. In the outer nickel-plated steel ring, the legend 'CANADA' arcs along the left, 'DOLLARS' along the right, and the numeral '2' is centred at the bottom, flanked by two stylised maple leaf rosette ornaments.
