Additional information

The Bermuda Monetary Authority issued this piece as part of a wildlife series timed loosely around growing conservation awareness in the Atlantic territories during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The yellow-crowned night heron — Nyctanassa violacea — had faced serious pressure in Bermuda from habitat loss and human encroachment on the mangrove systems it depends on for nesting.

KM#68 was struck at the Pobjoy Mint in Surrey, which held the BMA contract for collector coinage through much of this period.
