Niue has functioned as a prolific vehicle for commemorative silver issues since the 1990s, with the New Zealand government administering its currency arrangements while the island's name appears on coins it will never circulate. The Lunar series targeting the Chinese collector market drives the bulk of these programs, and 2019 — the Year of the Pig — generated competing issues from a dozen different mints and issuers simultaneously.
