Reverse description The central field features a full-color photographic composite depicting the principal crew members of the U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek: The Original Series, set against a deep-space starfield background. The figures include Captain Kirk (upper right), Mr. Spock (left, holding a phaser), Lieutenant Uhura (center), Ensign Chekov (lower left), Ensign Sulu (lower center), Dr. McCoy (lower right), and Engineer Scott (right). The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 starship is rendered in the upper left of the composition, and the commemorative 50th anniversary Starfleet delta insignia numeral appears centrally above the group. Decorative four-pointed star motifs appear in the matte silver border on either side, along with the Perth Mint P mintmark at the left. The legend THE ORIGINAL SERIES arcs along the upper rim, STAR TREK appears in bold lettering along the lower field, and the copyright notice TM & © 2016 CBS. ARR. is inscribed in the lower right border.

Additional information

The Perth Mint's licensed Star Trek issues began appearing in 2016 under an arrangement with CBS Consumer Products, timed to the franchise's fiftieth anniversary. This particular piece commemorates the crew of the original 1966 television series rather than any of the later film or spinoff iterations.

KM#280 is a 2 oz colorized issue with a mintage ceiling of 10,000 — low enough to sell out quickly on the secondary market but high enough that examples remain findable.
