Part of the New Zealand Mint's licensed Star Wars coin program, which ran across multiple Pacific island issuing authorities through the 2010s. Niue holds a longstanding arrangement with the New Zealand Mint granting it rights to produce legal tender collector coins under such licenses — coins that circulate in name only, with face values bearing no relationship to actual silver content or collector premiums.
The TIE/LN fighter designation refers to Twin Ion Engine/Line Nought, the standard Imperial starfighter of the original trilogy. Mintage for individual releases in this series was typically capped at 10,000 pieces.
