Part of a themed series issued by Cook Islands through the New Zealand Mint, this piece draws on Hans Christian Andersen's 1838 story — written, according to Andersen himself, in a single sitting after a friend handed him a scrap of tin. Cook Islands has long used its mint authority to produce collector silver under licensing arrangements that have no connection to local circulation or economy.
