The 100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge prompted the Royal Canadian Mint to issue this commemorative circulation toonie, one of several 2017 centenary pieces distributed through normal banking channels rather than collector packaging. Vimy itself — April 9–12, 1917 — was the first time all four divisions of the Canadian Corps attacked together, a coordination that proved decisive where British and French forces had previously failed on the same ground.
