Reverse description Central depiction of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial as it stands in Vimy, France, rendered in fine relief against an open field. Flanking the monument are two allegorical military figures: a First World War soldier to the left and a veteran soldier to the right, evoking themes of sacrifice and remembrance. The legend VIMY and REMEMBER arc across the upper and lower portions of the reverse respectively, with the commemorative date 2017 integrated into the design. The initials TB appear in the field, identifying the reverse designer, with SOUVENIR also inscribed as part of the commemorative programme.

Additional information

The 100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge prompted the Royal Canadian Mint to issue this commemorative circulation toonie, one of several 2017 centenary pieces distributed through normal banking channels rather than collector packaging. Vimy itself — April 9–12, 1917 — was the first time all four divisions of the Canadian Corps attacked together, a coordination that proved decisive where British and French forces had previously failed on the same ground.

The dual reference numbers in major catalogs reflect an inconsistency between the collector and circulation-strike listings for this type.
