The surrounding field is deeply sculpted with a rough, irregular surface evoking fragmented rock and ejecta debris. The circumferential legend TAMDAKHT METEORITE STRIKE and geographic coordinates 31°09.9′N 07°02.3′W are inscribed along the periphery in a sans-serif typeface integrated into the textured design. The Tamdakht meteorite fell on December 20, 2008, over the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco — one of the largest witnessed meteorite falls in recent history, with a recovered mass exceeding 100 kilograms. Cook Islands has issued a long-running series of meteorite coins that embed genuine fragments directly into the coin's surface, and this piece participates in that tradition. The fragment present here is authenticated Tamdakht H5 chondrite, an ordinary chondrite class distinguished by its shock-darkened texture from the violence of atmospheric entry.
