Part of a broader series commemorating the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, this issue marks a subject that survives only in ancient descriptions — the chryselephantine statue at Olympia, constructed by Pheidias around 435 BC, was destroyed in late antiquity and no confirmed image of it exists. What numismatists know of the statue comes almost entirely from Pausanias's second-century account and a handful of ancient coin types from Elis.
The Solomon Islands has no historical connection to Olympia; the issuer here is purely nominal, a jurisdiction chosen for its cooperative mint licensing arrangements.
