| Reverse description | The gold-plated inner core depicts a solitary polar bear standing on a rocky outcrop amid stylized arctic waters, rendered in fine detail with the animal facing left in a naturalistic pose. The design is attributed to engraver Brent Townsend, whose initials BT appear in small characters at the lower right of the inner field. The polished frosted silver outer ring carries the country name CANADA arching across the upper half and the denomination 2 DOLLARS arranged across the lower half, with the numeral and word on separate lines. The stark contrast between the gold-plated core and the dark mirror-finish silver ring lends the reverse a dramatic, high-relief appearance characteristic of proof coinage. |
