The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank's piedfort program has produced relatively few issues, making this thicker-than-standard double-weight striking somewhat unusual in the ECCB catalog. Piéforts — struck on blanks double the normal planchet thickness — originated as presentation pieces for French mint officials and have been adopted intermittently by issuing authorities worldwide as premium collector formats. At 62.2 g of .999 silver, this piece carries exactly twice the metal content of the standard issue.
