Saint Catherine's Monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai is among the oldest continuously inhabited Christian monastic communities in the world, operating without interruption since the 6th century under Justinian I. The Solomon Islands has no geographic or political connection to the site whatsoever — this is a purely commercial commemorative issue produced for the collector market, a common practice among smaller Pacific sovereignties that license their minting authority for foreign-themed numismatic programs.
