Niue has issued novelty bimetallic pieces with organic cores before, but the juniper insert here connects to something specific: Saaremaa, Estonia's largest island, where juniper has been ecologically and culturally central for centuries — the island's juniper groves are among the densest in Northern Europe and have been harvested for everything from medicinal use to fence posts.
