Six circular portrait medallions of principal characters from the series — including Rick, Morty, Beth, Jerry, Summer, and an eyepatch-wearing alternate Morty — are arranged around the hexagram against a deep blue background populated with interdimensional portals and alien flora. At the top, a portal globe with green energy emanations is flanked by a spacecraft control panel, while the lower field depicts an uncoloured relief of mountains and a rising mushroom cloud. Niue has issued legal tender collector coins under licensing agreements with major entertainment properties since the early 2010s, functioning essentially as a revenue-generating vehicle for the island's government rather than a circulating monetary instrument. The Rick and Morty franchise, created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon and first aired on Adult Swim in 2013, became one of the most commercially licensed animated properties of its decade.
