Issued to mark the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, this was one of dozens of commemorative silver proofs released across Commonwealth territories that year — Belize among the smaller issuers. The Queen Mother had no particular constitutional relationship with Belize beyond the shared Crown, and these peripheral Commonwealth issues were largely driven by the commemorative coin trade rather than any local demand.
