Niue has operated a prolific bullion and collector coin program since the early 1990s, leveraging licensing agreements with major IP holders — Disney among them — to produce legal tender issues that circulate on paper but exist almost exclusively in collector hands. The Winnie-the-Pooh license, drawn from A.A. Milne's original works rather than the Disney adaptation, reflects a deliberate distinction that has become increasingly relevant since Disney's stylized version of the character entered a separate and contested copyright category.
