正面描述 The obverse presents a right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as portrayed by engraver Susanna Blunt, the fourth and final portrait used on Canadian coinage during her reign. The queen is depicted uncrowned and simply attired, with a restrained, mature likeness corresponding to her appearance in her late seventies. The legend ELIZABETH II D•G•REGINA arcs around the upper periphery, with the date appearing in the lower field below the portrait. The initials SB, denoting engraver Susanna Blunt, appear at the truncation of the effigy. A small maple leaf privy mark is positioned above the queen's effigy.

附加信息

The bimetallic toonie format was itself born out of necessity — the Royal Canadian Mint introduced the two-dollar coin in 1996 partly to replace the short-lived two-dollar note, which the government calculated cost significantly more per transaction to produce and maintain than a coin of equivalent denomination. The "date bottom" positioning distinguishes this sub-type within the broader Elizabeth II polar bear series and is a cataloger's distinction rather than a deliberate design revision.

A known engineering quirk of early toonie production — the centre popping free from the ring under temperature stress — was largely resolved by the time this date range entered circulation.
