| 背面描述 | A polar bear is depicted in three-quarter profile, standing on a rocky shoreline with a mountainous Arctic landscape in the background, all contained within the aluminium bronze centre of the bimetallic coin. The design, attributed to Brent Townsend, conveys naturalistic detail in the bear's fur and musculature. The legend CANADA arcs along the upper portion of the nickel outer ring, while the denomination 2 DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower portion, both in raised capital letters. |

Canada's bimetallic toonie was introduced in 1996 partly to reduce currency production costs — dollar coins last roughly 20 years in circulation versus 1 year for a paper note. Specimen-finish examples from annual sets were struck to a higher standard than business strikes but have never commanded significant premiums, largely because the RCM produced them in quantities sufficient to meet collector demand without restraint. The "Old design" designation distinguishes these from the 2012 redesign that subtly altered the effigy.
