| Obverse description | The obverse bears the right-facing diademed effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs above, with NIUE inscribed directly beneath. The date 2022 and the denomination 2 DOLLARS are displayed below the effigy, separated by horizontal rules. Additional inscriptions in the lower field read 1 oz 999 Fine Silver / TM & © 2022 / CBS Studios Inc. / All Rights Reserved. The coin is struck in a shaped flan contoured to the silhouette of the character depicted on the reverse. |

Niue has long operated as a licensing vehicle for novelty bullion, and this issue is no different — struck under a formal agreement between the New Zealand-dependent territory and a commercial mint, with Niue's legal tender status providing the denomination while contributing nothing in the way of monetary circulation. The coin never saw Niuean commerce and was never intended to.
Nyota Uhura, the USS Enterprise communications officer introduced in Star Trek's 1966 premiere, was among the first Black women in a non-servant role in American primetime television — a fact the coin's existence nods toward without stating.
