Additional information

The Moscow Kremlin Egg was created by Fabergé in 1906 as an Easter gift from Tsar Nicholas II to his mother, Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna. Inside the egg, which is housed today in the Kremlin Armory, sits a miniature gold replica of the Grand Kremlin Palace. Niue has issued a long-running series of Fabergé Egg commemoratives, each coin typically incorporating enamel work and embedded crystals to approximate the jeweled originals — decorative bullion aimed squarely at thematic collectors rather than numismatic ones.

KM#1242 is one of several dozen issues in this franchise, struck at a private mint under license arrangements common to Niue's commemorative program.
