| Beschrijving keerzijde | Highly detailed high-relief depiction of Ma Chao, the celebrated Han Dynasty general, rendered in antiqued finish. The central figure of Ma Chao is shown mounted on an armored warhorse, striding through turbulent waters, clad in elaborate lamellar armor and bearing a long spear with a gilded tip. A dynamic battle scene fills the background, with mounted warriors, infantry bearing banners, and a fortified structure visible in the upper right field. To the right of the main figure, a vertical cartouche inscribed with the Chinese characters 馬超 (Ma Chao) is surmounted by a vertical inscription reading 威震天下, meaning 'Awe-inspiring Throughout the Land.' The entire composition is executed in deeply sculpted ultra-high relief with exceptional sculptural detail. |
