The central figure of Ma Chao is shown mounted on an armored warhorse, striding through turbulent waters, clad in elaborate lamellar armor and bearing a long spear with a gilded tip. A dynamic battle scene fills the background, with mounted warriors, infantry bearing banners, and a fortified structure visible in the upper right field. To the right of the main figure, a vertical cartouche inscribed with the Chinese characters 馬超 (Ma Chao) is surmounted by a vertical inscription reading 威震天下, meaning 'Awe-inspiring Throughout the Land.'
