The island's actual circulating currency is the New Zealand dollar. These silver issues are manufactured for the international collector market, with Niue lending its sovereign status to facilitate legal tender designation.
The lotus series falls within a wave of themed nature bullion programs that flooded the market in the late 2010s, most produced by the New Zealand Mint on Niue's behalf.
