Les deux amies ("The Two Friends") belongs to Cook Islands' long-running series of small-format silver issues produced under license arrangements that have little to do with the islands themselves — the Cook Islands monetary authority has functioned primarily as a vehicle for European bullion and numismatic product companies since the 1970s. The actual striking was almost certainly contracted to a European mint, most likely B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt in Munich, which has handled the majority of Cook Islands licensed issues in this weight class.
