Part of a broader Wildlife series issued by the Solomon Islands, which has no wild leopard population — the animal is entirely emblematic rather than native. The coin was struck by a private mint on behalf of the government, a common arrangement for Pacific island states whose own minting infrastructure is nonexistent. Solomon Islands has leveraged its issuing authority this way since the 1970s, producing collector pieces with little to no domestic circulation.
