The Virgin of Vladimir is one of the most venerated Byzantine icons in the Orthodox world, believed to have been painted by Saint Luke and brought to Kiev from Constantinople around 1131. It was carried to Vladimir in 1155 and eventually to Moscow in 1395, where it was credited with repelling Tamerlane's invasion — a claim that cemented its near-mythological status in Russian religious history. Its inclusion on a Fijian coin is purely a commercial decision by a bullion issuer targeting the collector market, with no historical connection between Fiji and the icon whatsoever.
