Obverse description Right-facing diademed and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear on the truncation. The legend NIUE ELIZABETH II is distributed across the upper field, flanked by elaborate scrolling arabesque ornamental motifs in the background. The denomination 2 DOLLARS is rendered vertically in large stylized numerals and lettering along the left and right fields respectively, with the date 2017 arranged vertically at the right. The fineness mark Ag 999 appears in the upper left. A central crystal capsule set into the coin contains two small golden egg-shaped inserts, referencing the Fabergé tradition.

Additional information

Niue has operated as a prolific licensing hub for novelty bullion since the 1990s, contracting its sovereign issuing authority to external mints — primarily the New Zealand Mint — to produce collectible silver rounds that carry legal tender status largely as a formality. This piece belongs to that commercial pipeline rather than to any domestic monetary need; Niue's entire circulating currency is the New Zealand dollar.

KM#1844 sits in a crowded Chinese Lunar-adjacent market where dozens of competing issuers produce near-identical formats annually.
