Additional information

Niue has issued commemorative silver under licensing arrangements since the early 1990s, functioning essentially as a mint-for-hire jurisdiction whose actual population hovers around 1,600. The Chopin issue belongs to a broader wave of Polish-themed numismatic releases marketed heavily toward Central European collectors — Poland has no domestic legal authority to issue such pieces under foreign coinage law, so Pacific island jurisdictions fill that commercial gap.

Chopin died in Paris in 1849, almost certainly of tuberculosis complicated by pericarditis, and never returned to Poland after leaving at nineteen.
